Beekeeper
Keeps the village’s bees: it harvests honey and honeycomb from the beehives around its own, grows flowers for the bees, and breeds bees while the hives have room. It needs no other mod.
Its hive
| Block | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Beehive, with a shelf touching it | The job site. Only with a shelf touching it, on top or on any side, as every station’s shelf: a beehive you keep bees in never makes a beekeeper. A bee nest never does either, so beekeepers come only from hives you build. |
| Shelf | Its tools: shears, bottles and bone meal. |
It looks after every hive near its own: its own, and every beehive and bee nest without a shelf touching it within four blocks of it, across and up and down. A hive with a shelf is another beekeeper’s, so two beekeepers side by side never work each other’s hive. Where the hives they look after overlap, whoever gets there first takes the honey.
Honey
A hive full of honey gives a honey bottle whenever the beekeeper has a bottle. A water bottle is poured away first, and the bottle used. Without bottles it takes honeycomb with its shears.
Its bottles go round the village. With a Chef in the village, its honey bottles go to the kitchen for meals made with honey, and the Chef brings the empty bottles to the beekeeper’s shelf, up to 16, whenever the shelf has room for them. You can put bottles on its shelf yourself too. The Chef keeps four honey bottles; the rest goes to storage. The bees are never angered, and the hive fills again at its usual pace.
Flowers
With bone meal it grows flowers near its hives: on grass, which grows the flowers that grow there, and on tall flowers, which each give it a copy and stay standing. It does this while there are no more than two flowers for each hive, so the bees always have somewhere to go.
It keeps its grass clear for flowers. Bone meal on grass grows mostly grass, and a grass block with something on it takes no more bone meal. So whenever it has bone meal, it cuts down the tall grass and large ferns growing on the grass around its hives, even ones you planted there. While it still wants flowers and no grass block is left bare, it also cuts short grass and ferns, one at a time, and puts its bone meal there. What it cuts drops nothing.
It picks a small flower only while there are more than two for each hive, and only to breed bees with. Flowers it picks, and the copies of tall flowers, stay in its pockets for the bees and never go on its shelf.
Bees
It keeps three bees for every hive it looks after. While there is room for more, it feeds two grown bees a flower each, and a young bee follows, which finds a hive of its own. With its hives full, it breeds no more. A bee it cannot get to, shut in or flying out of reach, is left alone for a while, and it feeds two others.
Its clothes and hat
A beekeeper wears a canvas bee suit with leather gloves and rubber boots, and carries a smoker on its belt (cosmetic only, not a real block). With MCA Reborn and its extension, MCA beekeepers dress the same way.
It wears a beekeeper’s hat: a wide brim and a dark veil down past the chin, over its nose. It wears it while it works: when work ends it takes it off and keeps it in its pockets, and puts it back on when work starts. The shepherd makes one from wool of any colour whenever the beekeeper has no hat, on its head or in its pockets, and puts it on the beekeeper’s head itself, so a full shelf never keeps it from one. There is no spare, and the hat in its pockets is never stored. You can craft one too, from four wool of any colours, one above a row of three, and it comes out white whatever the wool; leave it on the beekeeper’s shelf and a beekeeper with no hat puts it on. The hat comes off when the villager loses the job, and it never drops. With MCA Reborn and its extension, MCA beekeepers wear it too, as a helmet.
